A Week In Iceland: Photodiary
I‘ve been craving to go to Iceland for so long. At one point it seemed as if literally everyone already went to Iceland already, except for me. At the end of last year, together with WOW Air, I planned an Iceland stopover, on my way to the United States with a friend. Guess my Iceland trip came faster than ever imagined! So when we finally got the opportunity to go to Iceland, we decided that a stopover doesn’t have to be as short as a couple of hours or even a couple of days – so therefor we stayed in Iceland for almost a week. Six nights, six days. How we spent our time? We hired a car and drove around the entire Ring Road. We spent a day in Reykjavik and we even did a part of the Golden Circle! Before leaving a couple of girls told me this was far to enthusiastic for one week in Iceland – but somehow we managed to do it, to see everything we wanted to see and we even had some time left!
I’ve got so many stories I want to tell you about Iceland, but let’s start with a massive photo diary of my trip! And trust me, when I say massive – I mean it.
Starting the roadtrip!
After our first night, staying close to the airport we started our roadtrip. A big 4x4, we named David, that could even possibly be my dream car. Best thing about it? It wasn't white! We learned that most rental cars in Iceland are white, which made it far easier for us to find our own car back! Also, it quickly came a thing to say 'Follow the white rentals and we'll find our destination!'
We hired our car at SADcars. A budget car company that has a great selection of good quality rentals for your roadtrip! If you happen to end up with the same rental as we had – say hello to him for us;-)
We found the Seljalandsfoss
Next to the Seljalandsfoss you’ll find the hidden Gljúfrafoss. First impressions of Iceland? Good!
The South part of the Island is still one of my favorite parts of Iceland. It’s perfect, and has so many hidden gems, beautiful waterfalls and amazing landscapes.
The black beach of Vik
Tell me this isn't impressive though
Driving the Ring Road
Endless roads, extensive landscapes, mountains and snow. The Ring Road was a perfect scenic drive.
On our fifth night in Iceland we arrived at this amazing cabin in the middle of nowhere (somewhere in the North West). Literally – the middle of nowhere. It took us a detour of more than one hour off the Ring Road, a lot of mountains and even driving through snow to get to this cabin. Definitely worth it though – for sure my favorite stay in Iceland!
Driving the Golden Circle
On or last day driving the Ring Road we expected to arrive in Reykjavik pretty early - which made us come to the decision to explore a bit of the Golden Circle as well! We drove the first part of the famous route - seeing the gigantic Gullfoss and the Geisers. A great last day to spend in our car!
Welcome to the beautiful capital of Iceland!
